Students from Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted participate in Ams Cup tournament every year. A representative team from each class will compete, with 16 teams competing to be crowned champions. Regretfully for our class, the draw did not proceed as planned when our squad was pitted against FC NNN, a team comprised of the greatest players in the school, the Dual Block team, the reigning champion, and one of the most promising
prospects this year.

—————

Our team was focused on winning the first game against class 11 Tin in order to maintain hope of defeating the challenging group. Regrettably, our squad’s haste and lack of composure in the closing minutes resulted in unfortunate errors that set up the game’s lone goal and dashed whatever hopes the team had of continuing.

With an attitude of having nothing to lose, our team experimented with numerous novel and audacious strategies, honoring all of the onlookers. When the ball landed in a favorable spot during the last game, I had the opportunity to cut inside and score the team’s first goal. Even though the team suffered three losses in the group stage, I learned a great lesson from this experience—mine and the team’s—about the value of staying composed, disciplined, and determined in the face of adversity.
